How much time does it take to apply for a Canada PR Visa?

When we talk about PR Visa application processing time it means the time that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) takes to assess your application. 

The other processes like submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI), gathering the required documents, biometric screening, etc. are not counted in the total application processing time for your PR Visa application.

The processing of the Canada permanent residency (PR) Visa takes around 6 to 8 months from getting the ITA (Invitation to Apply).

What are the factors that affect Canada's PR Visa application?

Following are the major factors that affect your application processing time:

Submitting the right set of documents

This is the most vital part of the immigration process. Submitting the right and valid documents with your PR Visa application affects your chances of successful application. 

In case you do not submit the right documents, the immigration authorities will ask you to submit the required documents. Procurement of the document will take time that will, in turn, result in a delay in your immigration process. There are some cases where the immigration authorities have rejected the application because of wrong information or documents.

Type of application

The number of applications for the same program also affects the processing time. If there are more applications for a single type of visa, the processing time will also increase.

Completeness of your application

If the submitted application is incomplete, IRCC can either deny the applicant completely or request more information, which can cause significant delays in the processing time.

If there are some delays in your application, the following are some of the possible reasons:

• Your medical certificate and  Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) take longer for validation;

• Under an interview conducted by the immigration authorities;

• The high number of applications;
